I can really relate to this one. I am an introvert, and I enjoy spending time by myself. However, if I spend too much time alone, I can begin to feel isolated and lonely.

The last couple of years have been particularly challenging in this regard. Having a serious chronic illness means spending a lot of time at home on my own.

Once you start loving your own presence, you stop chasing people in your life. – Unknown

I have been guilty of this one before. Back in my twenties, I chased romantic relationships that weren’t good for me because, deep down, I was scared of being on my own.

I thought I had stopped chasing people, but recently, I fell back into this trap. When I was diagnosed with a chronic illness, one of my closest friends disappeared from my life. She knew I was really sick and struggling, but she left me to cope on my own.

I missed my friend. I needed her. So I chased her, trying to get the friendship back. Eventually, we got back in touch, but after a while, she repeated her toxic behaviour of cancelling at the last minute, then ghosting me for long periods of time. The pattern was that after she ghosted me yet again, I would chase after her.

This time, I learned my lesson. I stopped chasing her and finally broke a years-long pattern.

No more chasing.
