The problem is you think you have time.” – Buddha

This quote always makes me stop and think. It makes me take action because it reminds me that I don’t have forever. We tend to waste so much time. Think of this quote and use your time wisely.

There are only two rules for being successful. One, figure out exactly what you want to do, and two, do it.” – Mario Cuomo

Do it. Do it. Do it.

It sounds so easy written like that doesn’t it? But the doing part is often our biggest challenge. The doing is also the part that makes things worthwhile and meaningful.

So decide what you want and do it. Be prepared for failure, be open to joy, be ready for challenges, be prepared to work hard.

Don’t let ‘I don’t feel motivated’ be an excuse.

Over the weekend, I started reading The Motivation Manifesto by Brendon Burchard (who I’m a massive fan of by the way) and I have to admit, I’m only a couple of chapters in but it is blowing me away. I know I’m going to learn a lot from this book and it’s going to give me a good kick because there’s a lot of truth and some tough love within its pages. I highly recommend you grab yourself a copy as well.

It will make you look at motivation, fear, and freedom in a whole different light.

Memento Mori (Remember that you will die).” – Latin Proverb

This one is right up there with the Buddha quote. It’s right there in the quote. You will die.

This quote isn’t about focusing on death, it’s about focusing on LIVING.

Are you living fully or is a little bit of you feeling dead inside? If so you need to wake up, shake things up and start living fully again.

Someone once told me the definition of Hell: The last day you have on earth, the person you became will meet the person you could have become.” – Anonymous

I’ll admit, this one shook me a little bit when I read it. Probably because I feel like I’ve not been myself lately. I think many of us feel this way from time to time (particularly when we are going through a really rough patch) and that’s okay.

What’s important is that we recognize and acknowledge our feelings and not shy away from them.

What’s important is that we take action to move forward in being the person we want to be.

Do you want to know who you are?” Don’t ask. Act. Action will delineate and define you.” – Thomas Jefferson

I’ll be honest, at first, I wasn’t that keen on this quote because I wasn’t fussed on the word ‘define’. I’m not keen on the idea of something defining me, particularly when it comes to my mistakes and failures.

But that got me thinking – your mistakes don’t define you if you keep taking intentional actions and keep moving forward.

The path to success is to take massive, determined actions.” – Tony Robbins

The word that pops out for me in this quote is massive.

I think sometimes we take determined actions but they are small and safe and still in our comfort zone. Then we wonder why we don’t see massive results.

We sometimes don’t take massive determined actions because they are the ones that scare the hell out of us. Yet the massive determined actions are the ones that can set us free.

Make your next action massive.

Patience is not simply the ability to wait – it’s how we behave while we’re waiting.” – Joyce Meyer

I think this one is important to include because while we are working away, taking action, and giving it our best, the truth is – it can take time to see results. Sometimes it can take a lot of time and we need to be patient (we need to keep working hard yet still be patient).

Action is the foundational key to all success.’ – Pablo Picasso

The number of artworks Picasso produced in his lifetime is estimated at around 50,000 so this man definitely knew what he was talking about in regards to action being fundamental to success.

You can’t be a success if you don’t take some sort of action.

Nothing will work unless you do.” – Maya Angelou

I think most of us have seen this quote around at some point. We might read it and think yeah, yeah I know that already. But knowing and doing are different things.

You need to do the work.

The critical ingredient is getting off your butt and doing something. It’s as simple as that. A lot of people have ideas, but there are  few who decide to do something about them now. Not tomorrow. Not next week but today. The true entrepeneur is a doer, not a dreamer.” – Atari founder Nolan Bushnell

This one hit home for me because I admit, sometimes I can be a bit too much of a dreamer (and a planner).

This quote is a great reminder – be a doer.

Do the hard jobs first. The easy jobs will take care of themselves.” – Dale Carnegie

This one jumped out at me because I used to be guilty of doing the easy jobs first.

A great resource that helped me put the hard jobs first is Eat That Frog: 21 Great Ways to Stop Procrastinating and Get More Done in Less Time by Brian Tracy. This is a great little pocket rocket book on productivity with lots of practical actions you can start right now to improve your productivity.

Inaction breeds doubt and fear. Action breeds confidence and courage. If you want to conquer fear, do not sit home and think about it. Go out and get busy.” – Dale Carnegie

You won’t feel confident and brave sitting on your couch watching television all the time. You won’t feel brave, simply thinking about the adventures you could be taking.

You need to get out there and live the adventure. That’s what builds confidence.

If self-doubt is holding you back, I highly recommend taking the How to Break the Habit of Self-Doubt and Build Real Confidence online course by the amazing Mel Robbins over at CreativeLive. I took this course earlier this year and it was a game-changer. You can read my review here on why I loved it and how it can help you.

Any action is often better than no action, especially if you have been stuck in an unhappy situation for a long time. If it is a mistake, at least you learn something, in which case it’s no longer a mistake. If you remain stuck, you learn nothing.” – Eckhart Tolle

This quote reminds me that taking action means that sometimes we are going to make mistakes. It means you might fail big time or screw up.

But you know what – that’s all better than doing nothing. It’s better than not trying, not learning, and not growing. It’s better than staying stuck in a miserable situation due to a lack of action.
