Be in control of your life

The bad news is time flies. The good news is you’re the pilot”.

Michael Altshuler

Sometimes life feels like it’s totally out of control.

We feel like we have no input, no influence, no way of steering ourselves forward. We feel like someone else is pulling all of the strings.

At times it can feel like we are at the mercy of our bodies, bosses, family, partners, friends, finances, or even complete strangers. It feels like they are holding all the cards and we are simply blowing aimlessly in the wind.

It’s important to remember – that’s rarely the case.

We have much more control than we realize, we simply have to take it back or realize we never lost it in the first place.

Here are three ways to be more in control of your life.

Choices

Nothing is stronger than our choices.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, Two Significant Factors that Will Determine the Course of Your Life, we have our choices and we have the random stuff that happens to us. One we have complete control over.

Our choices are powerful. Our choices determine our future.

Base your choices on your own values, integrity, and passion for life.

Accept and be at peace with the fact that sometimes we make the wrong choice. It’s all part of the process.

Without realizing we often forfeit our own control. We either hand it over willingly because it seems easier (it’s not!) or we tell ourselves we can’t get it back.  We look around for someone else to blame. We become a victim.

We tell ourselves we are stuck. Therein lies the problem, the minute we tell ourselves we’re stuck – indeed we are.

You have choices. They are yours alone. Stay strong.

Chances

Sometimes we have to take risks. We have to take chances. We can’t always play it safe or be wild and crazy.

We have to be brave enough to seize an opportunity when it comes along.  We have to want to move forward.

Granted the hard part is working out which risks are worth taking and which ones we should pass on altogether.

Use both your heart and your head. Working together they make a pretty impressive team.

Be adventurous. Don’t do something just because everyone else is doing it. Be yourself.

Take chances. Do what is uniquely best for you.

Changes

Sometimes no matter how much we resist it – the only way to get back on track and feel in control is through change.

Let’s not sugar-coat this folks, change can be hard. It can be gut-wrenching.  It can take hard work, sacrifice, emotional upheaval, and sometimes a good kick up the butt.

It can be messy and frustrating but oh so worth the effort.

Change can be exhilarating, joyful, dazzling. Brilliant!

You are the pilot of your own life. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Embrace your power and take control of your life.
