As you know from an earlier post, I love books.
Consequently, I thought I would start a series where I can highlight some of my top picks.
Here are some of my favourite non-fiction titles currently on my bookshelf.
Flying Solo– by Robert Gerrish and Sam Leader
After reading a few articles on the Flying Solo website, I knew I wanted to get my hands on this book. While there is a large selection of books on the market for starting a small business, it was helpful to find a book aimed specifically at being a sole trader.
Eat That Frog – by Brian Tracy
The simple and effective time management techniques in this book worked for me straight away. This book is full of suggestions you can quickly and easily put in play.
Some time management/productivity books can be a bit of a hard read. Some seem complicated and long winded. I read this book a few years ago but I often find myself re-reading certain sections. It’s a great size that you can carry around in your handbag. I’m sure it comes as no surprise to learn my handbag always has a book in it!

Escape from Cubicle Nation – Pamela Slim
I bought this book in an overseas airport bookstore some time ago. I had come across snippets of Pamela Slim on the Internet, so when I spotted the book I snapped it up. For someone that was craving the courage and motivation to take their first big step away from corporate life, it was an exceptional and inspiring read.

Ignore Everybody– Hugh MacLeod
Hugh tells it like it is. No sugar coating. Ignore Everybody and 39 Other Keys to Creativity is a small book and easy to read. It does however pack quite a punch. No matter how many times I read this book, I pick up something new in each chapter.

The Artist’s Way – Julia Cameron
When I originally had this book given to me, I read the first couple of chapters and put it back down again. For whatever reason, I was not ready to read it from start to finish. I wasn’t ready for the exercises and morning pages. A long time later, I picked it up again and could NOT put it down. This time around it all made sense and still does.
If you are struggling with your creativity – read this excellent book!
I have a strange theory on books – You don’t choose the book, the book chooses you!
