As many of you already know I love to travel. Unfortunately due to heading back to work full time – travelling overseas will be taking a back seat (at least for now!).
Quite a few of my family and friends however are off on overseas adventures. Here is a quick list of who is going where.
- Male friend just got back from 2 weeks skiing in Queenstown – he flew out again yesterday headed for the South of France for 3 weeks
- Girlfriend is currently in Mexico. She had a couple of days in Vegas when she first arrived in the US before heading for Canada and then onto Mexico.
- Family heading off for a month in Alaska
- Best friend heading off to South of France, Italy and Bangkok in October
Consequently, as you can imagine I am a nice shade of travel envy green right about now!
So over the next couple of months, don’t be surprised to see a few more travel related entries on this blog than normal.
To celebrate my friends travel plans, I thought I might get the ball rolling with some travel writers websites/blogs for you to explore.
I think it only fitting that I start with a great travel blog run by the lovely Emma. Naturally I am a bit biased as I am also a contributor to the blog. Check out my travel posts on shopping in New York, Berlin Zoo, Exploring Berlin and the ‘O’ show in Vegas.
I have been reading Ben at The Backpacker blog for some time. During my leave however his blog up and moved house to join other Fairfax blogs (though you can still find him on the Sydney Morning Herald site). You can now find Ben’s blog at The Backpacker. I have not read Ben’s new book 5 Ways to Carry A Goat yet but its on my reading list. If anyone has already had the pleasure, I would love to hear your thoughts on the book.
This is not only one of my favourite travel books but also one of my favourite books of all time. What is is about I hear you ask? Answer: An Uncommon Guide to the Art of Long-Term World Travel. I just love it!
I read the first one of Brian’s books many years ago. It was called Rule No 5 – No Sex on the Bus. The book made me laugh out loud (and cringe in a few places as well). The tour company Brian talks about frequented many of the same places that Contiki used back in the day. Back in 1996 to be precise, when I took my first Contiki Europe trip. Consequently I could relate to a lot of the book.
I read Peter’s first book No Sh*tting in the Toilet (he has many more books now as you will see by his book list), so I have a far bit of catching up to do in that regard.
Maybe I should just check to see if there are any cheap flights to Bali. I have been promising to visit my friend over there for a while now……
So does anyone have any exciting travel plans of their own to share? Feel free to leave your comments below.
Happy and safe travels to everyone!!
Cheers
Thea
